Melissa Reinhardt, MSEd, MT-BC, NMT is a graduate of Ohio University with a BM in Music Therapy and a Master in Special Education from the University of Saint Francis. Melissa has over 30 years of clinical experience and has been an adjunct faculty/practicum supervisor at both Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne and Queens University of Charlotte. She earned the Neurologic Music Therapy Affiliate status in 2023.
Melissa completed her music therapy internship at the Fort Wayne State Developmental Center in Fort Wayne, IN and remained on-staff for 10 years serving in various capacities including clinician, practicum supervisor, intern supervisor, clinical training director and department director overseeing 5 full time music therapists and up to 6 interns per year. Over her career, she has supervised over 25 music therapy interns both using the National Roster Internship model as well as the University Affiliated model. While completing her Master's Degree, Melissa was hired as a Continuing Lecturer in Music Therapy at Indiana University/Purdue University Fort Wayne where she taught lower level music therapy courses and supervised practicum students. Upon moving to South Carolina, Melissa worked at Queens University of Charlotte for 7 years both as an adjunct faculty and a practicum supervisor. Beginning in 2017, Melissa returned to clinical work at Piedmont Music Therapy, a private practice located in Charlotte, NC. She worked with clients across the lifespan with IDD, Autism, Stroke and Alzheimer's/Dementia. She also assisted in creating a National Roster Internship Site and once approved, supervised multiple interns. Throughout her career, Melissa has been involved in service to the music therapy profession at the state and regional level.
The combination of Melissa's work experience has led her to create Lumina Music Therapy which provides supervision, mentoring and consultation for music therapists. Melissa is highly passionate about the field of music therapy and the necessity of always learning and collaborating to be the best music therapist she can be. Her supervision style can be described as warm and approachable with a focus on meeting the supervisee at their current state and helping them to move forward in a developmental manner.
Philosophy & Approach
The name "Lumina" evokes a sense of light and is a metaphor for guidance. Lumina Music Therapy was chosen to represent my approach to supervision, mentoring and consulting. My goal is to highlight your strengths and current abilities and guide you to a point of learning and reflection through a developmental approach. Meeting you at your current state and bringing you step by step into awareness and the ability to apply what you learn to your daily work habits.
